Day 12 The Italian Job

Today we leave our base in Rome for the 250 mile drive to Tuscany. We set off about 08:30 into the Monday morning traffic on the Rome ring road. The official route goes up the coast but we have decided to let the satnav take up on the fastest route, although for us it is not fast. The scenery from the motorway on the journey up Italy is stunning with mountains a hill towns.

The highlight of the day was the stop for a pizza lunch in a service station, and an opportunity to replenish the sweets.

We arrived at the resort around 3:30 after a long climb up a mountain in first gear. Then after parking several hundred yards up steps and slopes. Just when you think you can settle down there are two more lifts and a bridge between buildings to the bedroom. All this and I am still not feeling well.

A drink on the terrace with stunning views of Barga across the valley made it all worthwhile.

  1. Hope you are feeling better Ed. What a totally amazing journey you, Sue and your beautiful van have been on. You must be absolutely knackered and need a long rest though I suspect that you don’t find that easy.
