Day 9 Circular route south of Siena

Early start to get ready for another timed section. We can choose our start time but have to arrive 70 kms away at exactly 10:28:30. Everyone has to arrive at 30 second intervals after 10:15 to control the entry into this rendezvous. Clear? No it isn’t for most jobbers.

We left the hotel and after a couple of junctions realised we had gone wrong. Returned to the hotel and saw two minis leaving so followed them only to find they had also had no idea where they are going.

We pulled over and tried putting various names from the route book into the satnav until it recognised one. After a few miles we managed to pick up where we were in the route book and switched the satnav off.

Apparently, our mistake meant we avoided an accident in Sienna which caused a massive traffic jam. The veiws on route were fabulous.

Fortunately, we missed the last turn and managed to stop in a vineyard to wait for our allotted time slot. We pulled round to the time control to find chaos. Minis coming from all directions and not in number order trying to reach time control as near to thier finish time as possible. Hurrah, we crossed the line within seconds of our allotted time. Perhaps we are getting better.

After a tour of the vineyards and wine production we adjourned to the owners castle for another four course lunch.

The afternoon started with another 30 second timed stage which we were several seconds late on. Oh dear, back to normality.

Then it was follow the route book to a carpark in Siena old town, a walk round the city, cathedral and clock tower square which were stunning, before heading back to the hotel for yet another four course meal.

No wonder the mini is getting slower with the weight we are putting on.

Todays scores and the cumulative scores have not been posted to keep the suspense of todays chaos going.
