An early start today as we are driving through Switzerland to France on our way back towards London.
The first challenge of the day was getting out of Turin in the rush hour. I made almost all the same mistakes I made last year. With a few near misses and U turns we eventually made it to the ring road.
I had programmed the SatNav to take the quickest route from Turin to Mulhouse in France. Last year although not the same destination it had taken me on motorways with gradual hills and tunnels. This year it took us over the Grand St Bernard’s tunnel.
The hills through the Alps were steep, windy, and very misty. I sometimes got out of first gear, and sometimes could see the end of the queue behind me.
Through the tunnel and EU boarder twice with no problem. On the way down towards France the views in the Alps were stunning.
We arrived at the hotel and booked a table for dinner. Unfortunately the hotel had not prepared for 100 people and lost control of the bar and restaurant, we managed one drink and never got into the restaurant before retiring to bed. The only good news was they lost my bar bill.
