Pocklington to Malton by the high and low way. Nice sunny weather.
Because I have been busier than I want to be, and as I was finding it difficult to locate hotels on the cycle route, I decided to hand the challenge to Skidaddle, so on this trip our luggage is being transported for us.
We were better organised this morning taking our luggage down at breakfast, and collecting bikes from the store. From the hotel it was a gentle up hill ride for about 3 miles when we came across a cafe due to open in 10 minutes. A young lady was cleaning outside tables and chairs. She, very sternly, told us we would need to wait on the roadside until they opened, which we reluctantly did.
After being allowed to sit down, we ordered a drink and then suitably refreshed, we continued upward. The views from the top were spectacular, even though I had advertised, to my compatriot, that this trip was on the flat.
About half way on our journey, at Thixendale, we stopped at Robert Fuller’s, a wild life artists studio and gallery. There we watched speeded up films of him painting animals which were fascinating, or so my compatriot told me. I can’t understand why we turned down the offer of a glass of wine when it was well after 11am.
We continued on our way and at about midday started looking for somewhere to stop for a drink, several times we got excited as we approached village pubs, only to find them closed. I knew we should have accepted the glass of wine at the studio. In the end we sat on a bench outside the pub and ate some fruit which is no substitute for some scratchings and a pint.
After a dry afternoon we found our accommodation and all was forgotten.
During the day I had recieved a call to join a Zoom meeting early evening. Fortunately the hotel wifi reached the swing seat in the middle of the garden. My compatriot read her book on the patio with a G&T in hand while I did an hours work.
We went for a walk around Malton, which has some interesting corners, but it seemed that Monday was everyones night off. We returned to the hotel for an excellent roast dinner with a gigantic yorkshire pudding.
Todays virtual world tour is Yorkshire.
